Leeds players were the first to issue a warning. They scored two goals in a row, but the referee disallowed both of them. The ball was burned briefly by Helder Costa before going out of bounds just before a critical centering throw.
The West Ham players rose to their feet and launched an assault. Jesse Lingard ran into the Leeds penalty area in the 21st minute and was fouled. Lingard moved forward to take the eleven-meter shot himself.
The goalkeeper deflected his shot, but the ball came back under his foot, and the Englishman had no trouble hitting the target.
A few minutes later, the Hammers went ahead 2-0 thanks to Craig Dawson’s brilliant header from a corner kick. Before the break, the same player reached the crossbar.
The guests hoped for at least a touch shot, but it proved difficult to achieve. Patrick Bamford squandered the best opportunity by missing a target from 6 meters. Their enmity waned significantly as the game progressed.
West Ham United tacked on three crucial points to their tally. With the victory, they moved up to fifth in the Premier League table. They are just two points behind Chelsea in fourth place but have one game left to play.
