As the summer transfer window opens, The Athletic knows that West Ham will want to sign Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham. West Ham manager David Moyes reportedly stated that the club was out of the running for Abraham due to Chelsea’s £40 million asking price.
However, sources tell The Athletic that West Ham will continue to try to sign the 23-year-old on a loan deal.
Abraham has also been linked with Aston Villa, Leicester City, and Newcastle United. However, Chelsea’s £40 million asking prices have priced him out of control for all of those clubs.
West Ham is hopeful that no other club can equal Chelsea’s asking price, increasing their odds of signing the 23-year-old on loan.
Moyes wants to bolster his squad this summer, but he said last week that the club will not be able to afford to pay £40 million for Abraham.
When asked about Abraham’s high value, Moyes told reporters, “It will rule us out entirely. We’re going to be ruled out. So we’re out if that’s the number and that’s what’s being stated. We don’t have that kind of money, we don’t have that kind of money to buy a striker at that price. ‘I don’t think we’ll be buying that for any particular player.’ If we were, I’d be surprised.”
Tammy Abraham Performance
This season, Abraham has 12 goals in 32 games for Chelsea in all competitions. But an ankle injury has restricted his first-team appearances in recent months.
Under manager Thomas Tuchel, the 23-year-old has also failed to get into the starting XI. Recent arrivals Timo Werner and Kai Havertz have been chosen to lead the line.
