Cheshire police revealed that they will not be taking any action against the complaint of blackmail regarding Wayne Rooney online images. The former Manchester United player’s representatives approached the police citing an attempt to blackmail the Derby County manager with a number of explicit photographs.
A number of images were circulating on social media of Wayne Rooney sleeping in a hotel room surrounded by a number of young women. The police have said that they were no proof that the footballer acted inappropriately or even had any idea what was going on around him. They said they had spoken to the person involved and have decided not to act further.
“On Monday 26 July Cheshire Constabulary received reports of a possible blackmail relating to a number of images circulating online.” the police statement said regarding photos of Wayne Rooney. “Officers have spoken to the person involved and are satisfied that no offenses have taken place. The person involved has also stated that they do not wish to take the matter any further.”
Rooney enters into his first full season at derby county after taking over from Philip Cocu. He narrowly managed to keep them in the Championship last season. Derby are in the midst of a transfer embargo and have only nine senior players registered including two goalkeepers.
“It’s other people which I can’t control who need to make bigger decisions that I do,” Derby County boss Wayne Rooney said. “All I can do is try to bring some dignity and pride back to this club. It is clear that has gone in the last few years and it is my job to bring that back. I need other people to do their job.”
