Manchester City’s previous captain Vincent Kompany allegedly rejected the chance to come back to the Etihad as Pep Guardiola’s assistant manager. Guardiola has been searching for a number two since last December’s departure from Arsenal by Mikel Arteta and his previous captain is said to have been his favorite candidate. The notorious previous captain of the club had been allowed to come back to the Etihad just a single year after leaving. The Sun reports that Kompany excused the proposal, yet demands that he is focused on maintaining his present contract as player-manager at the childhood club in Anderlecht.

Since Mikel Arteta left to take over Arsenal in December, Pep Guardiola had been searching for another No2.

And informal talks are assumed to have been held to see whether Kompany would be keen on the vacancy.

Having won 10 trophies during his 11-year stay at the club, he appreciates legendary status among the City faithful. He affirmed to Anderlecht this week anyway that he is focused on the job until his contract lapses in 2022 and past. He’s even furrowed a portion of his capital into his childhood club as part of a sale that has quite recently passed.

One central reason is that after having such an extensive amount his career cursed by injury, Kompany wants to continue playing – and stresses he may not get the open door at the Etihad.

The 34-year-old despite everything accepts he could play in a little more than two years for his nation at the following World Cup.

His first year as team manager was blended as they completed eighth in the table due to Coronavirus which finished early.

Guardiola is also accepted to be quick to get another assistant with previous Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso connected to the activity ahead of next season.
