Celta Vigo was given a 1-1 draw by Real Betis at La Liga’s Balaidos Stadium on Saturday after the Video Assistant Referee denied the visitors a second-half penalty.
In the first half, Nolito gave Celta the lead with a clever free-kick from a tight angle, twisting his attempt around the wall until the ball hit goalkeeper Joel Robles and slipping in at the end post.
Betis was given a penalty in the second half after Rafinha made contact with Andres Guardado ‘s foot as he took his shot at the edge of the box but, after a three-minute VAR analysis, the referee reversed the decision.
However, in the second half, the visitors were the stronger side, and their superiority paid off in the 79th minute when the Zouhair Feddal center back handled a deep cross from a set-piece play to send the equalizer home.
However, in a mid-table clash, Real Valladolid beat Deportivo Alaves 1 -0. Defender Joaquin Fernandez scored in the 88th minute on his second goal of the season to give his side all three points at Jose Zorrilla Stadium.
The results leave Celta, Eibar, and Alaves, each with 35 points. However, Alaves are ahead on head-to-head points in the 15th position led by Eibar and Celta.
With 39 points, Valladolid climbed to 13th while Betis fell to 14th, one point behind.
