The signing of Ben Davies from Preston North End on a long-term deal has been completed by Liverpool.
On deadline day, the 25-year-old center-back put pen to paper on a contract with the Reds to tie up his transfer from the Championship club and reinforce the defensive ranks of Jürgen Klopp.
During his first interview at Anfield, Davies told Liverpoolfc.com: ‘I’m pleased to be here.
“It is an enormous opportunity. When it first came, it came as a bit of a surprise, but once you start wrapping your head around it, the potential in front of me is amazing. I’d be reckless not to make the most of it and learn [at the club] from the players.
Currently, I have never been to Anfield and I haven’t looked around yet. I looked out quickly and looked at the pitch, and it looks like a carpet, as you’d imagine.
Currently, I have not yet walked out of the tunnel, so I’m looking forward to that. It is brilliant just to be in this kind of environment.
Davies graduated from Preston through the academy ranks and proceeded to represent them on 145 occasions after his senior debut in January 2013, scoring two goals.
Preston’s 2019 Player of the Year award for his form was won by the Englishman, who will take the vacant No.28 shirt at Liverpool.
To start with, I want to come in and play games, get my foot in the door and make myself a Premier League player rather than a Championship player. And then he just took it from there,’ he said.
“We have some top players here, I realize, and players I will learn from. You’re here once you get your foot in the house, too. I hope I will take my opportunity and then move forward with it. I look forward to being able to come in and play in front of everybody and show everyone what I can do. A lot of fans and people don’t know [me], I’m sure, or they haven’t seen me play. It’s certainly an exciting time and I think they’re going to enjoy watching me when I play well.”
