Pirlo is set to leave his position as head coach following a disappointing 2020-21 season, according to discussions between Juve chairman Andrea Agnelli and Allegri.
Juventus To Replace Pirlo As Head Coach
After a dismal 2020-21 season in which the club was dethroned as Serie A champions and struggled to make significant progress in the Champions League, Juventus has moved to replace Pirlo as their head coach.
The Bianconeri finished fourth in the table, qualifying for the Champions League only in their final game, and were knocked out of Europe’s top club competition in the last-16 stage by Porto.
Pirlo led Juve to victories in the Supercoppa Italiana and Coppa Italia, but that was not enough to keep him in charge.
Instead, the Juventus hierarchy, led by chairman Agnelli, has decided to rehire former coach Allegri after a two-year hiatus.
Allegri left the Turin club in 2019 after winning Serie A by an 11-point margin, his fourth championship in a row, with the Turin club’s Champions League woes – which saw them fall to Ajax in the quarter-finals – considered as a major factor in his departure.
Juve has decided to throw the keys back to the 53-year-old. Juventus has failed to make substantial progress under either Sarri or Pirlo. An official announcement will be made soon.
Reason Allegri is going back?
Allegri is expected to sign a three-year deal with Juventus. He was also a target for Real Madrid and Inter, the latter having lost Antonio Conte on May 26.
Objective Spain can reveal that Allegri was the first option to succeed Zinedine Zidane at the Bernabeu. The Frenchman has recently stepped down as manager of the Spanish club.
During his five years in command of Juve, the former AC Milan coach was a huge success. His goal now is to bring the Serie A championship back to Turin. As well as continue the club’s pursuit for the Champions League triumph after a 25-year wait.
Allegri is expected to have far more transfer market freedom than he did previously. It is likely to have influenced his decision to return.
Along with prospective additions, the Juve manager will have to address player departures. Cristiano Ronaldo’s future is under contract until 2022, looking to be questionable.
