Fabrizio Romano announced that Real Madrid had agreed to terms with David Alaba, the Austrian defender and that the agreement had been concluded.
As a free agent, the Bayern Munich defender will join Los Blancos at the end of the season.
The Guardian notes that before accepting Madrid’s four-year contract bid, Alaba had declined offers from Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Paris Saint-Germain.
The arrival of David Alaba would theoretically mean Sergio Ramos’ departure at the end of the season. The contract with Ramos is due to expire in June and has not yet been agreed to be extended by Real Madrid.
As the Austrian international can play as a center-back and as a left-back, Alaba was most possibly brought in as a substitute for Ramos.
Since they have Ferland Mendy, it is highly doubtful that Los Blancos will use him as a left-back and would not want a player who earns 11 million Euros a season to warm up the bench.
Instead, in place of Sergio Ramos, it seems that Alaba will be slotted straight into the starting eleven. During last season’s treble-winning Bayern Munich team, the 29-year-old defender has already shown how effective he is as a center-back.
Meanwhile, according to the Express, Rene Ramos, who is the brother and agent of Sergio Ramos, has revealed that Manchester United have shown a great deal of interest.
As many other clubs are offering him a better deal, the Madrid captain may well and truly be out of his way from the Spanish capital.
