The 26-year-old has failed to make an impact since joining on loan for the season and has been left out of three of the last four matchday rosters, including the Carabao Cup final.

Vinicius has had the unenviable challenge of dealing with and foiling Harry Kane, and he has only scored once in nine Premier League appearances. As a result, the club is unlikely to exercise the £36 million option-to-buy introduced into Vinicius’ loan agreement, and will instead look elsewhere for other alternatives before the next transfer window opens.

Tottenham Transfer News | Next Recruitment

Tottenham’s recruiting intentions have not changed as a result of Jose Mourino’s dismissal and the absence of a named replacement, according to Sky Sports News, and another new backup forward for Kane remains one of the club’s priorities.

Kane is eager to think about his future at Tottenham following the European Championships this summer. Another season-ending without a title and Champions League qualification looking bleak. But Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has no intention of selling the club’s precious asset. He still plans to concentrate on seeking a capable deputy, a challenge the club has struggled with since Kane arrived in 2014-15.

After selling Roberto Soldado, they sought youngster Vincent Janssen from AZ Alkmaar and veteran Fernando Llorente. But both struggled in N17 and have since moved on.

Another Spurs target is said to be center-back. They have inquired about Bayern Munich’s out-of-contract star Jerome Boateng. And Southampton’s Jannick Vestergaard, among others, as they evaluate the upcoming competition. They can also improve in midfield, among forwards, at right-back, and in goal, depending on outgoings. However, like most clubs, the financial effect of the coronavirus pandemic has been huge, so they must sell to buy.

Other players the club has been watching include Stuttgart’s Nicolas Gonzalez, Lille’s Jonathan Bamba, and Palmeiras’ Gabriel Menino.
