Thomas Tuchel expects Werner to gain belief from his goal

Football News

Thomas Tuchel claims Timo Werner’s goal against Newcastle United would send the “last percentage of belief” to the Chelsea striker.

“He worked very hard, he was very decisive. Again today with an assist and a goal, this is a super, super point for him.”

Tuchel, however, thought that Chelsea was not brutal enough in the net, pointing to that as a crucial field for enhancement on the horizon with fixtures against Atletico Madrid and Manchester United.

“I liked the first half where we played with courage and had a lot of touches in the box and a lot of shots, 12 to three, and kept them out of our box and didn’t allow any chances,” he said to Sky Sports.

Thomas Tuchel believes that the target of Timo Werner against Newcastle United will give the Chelsea striker the “last percentage of belief”.

Werner has ended his wait for a first Premier League goal since the November 7 victory over Sheffield United, scoring Chelsea’s second in a routine 2-0 win.

Olivier Giroud’s opener was set up by the former RB Leipzig forward and doubled the lead by converting for the first time in 1,000 minutes and after a series of 31 failed attempts.

“For the strikers, the last percentage of belief comes from goals. During the whole match, we lacked precision in the box and the decision-making can be more deadly, more precise, and decisive to create more from our half chances.”

With Werner keen to keep the attention on the squad rather than the end of his wretched run in front of the goal, the victory pushes Chelsea into the top four.

“First half was really good for us, we played very good football,” Werner told Sky Sports.
