Thomas Tuchel: Callum Hudson-Odoi

Thomas Tuchel has warned Callum Hudson-Odoi that he may face consequences over his England U21 call-up snub. Southgate revealed that the Chelsea winger decided to stay at the club to stake a case for a spot in the senior team. The German said he was not totally convinced that it was the right decision saying that he could impress with the national team as well.

“I did not get involved in this discussion. I know it was a discussion between the federation and Callum, and I think it ended up with Petr Cech [Chelsea’s technical and performance advisor] being in the discussion.” Thomas Tuchel said about Callum Hudson-Odoi. “I was happy about that – I had no interest to get involved and know the exact reasons why. If Callum is here, we have full control of what he’s doing. It’s a good thing when we are in charge. He is clearly on the right way – you can see it in the matches and how effective he is. I feel he is very focused. He waited a long time for these changes and now they arrived.”

“I can understand if people don’t understand it or if they don’t like it,” the Chelsea head coach said. “I don’t give too much to judgements from outside,” he added. “I think that Callum is very aware that if he takes a decision like this, not everybody will be happy. The best reaction from him is to keep on going and show the consistency that we need from him.”
