Scotland 0-2 Czech Republic: Patrik Schick brace upset the Scots

Football News

Scotland Czech Republic

Patrick Schick scored a brace to help the Czech Republic to a 2-0 victory over Scotland at Euro 2020. Both teams shared the exchanges in the first half with Scotland just shading the possession. Arguably against the run of play, Schick scored a brilliant header three minutes before halftime. After halftime, Schick scored an outrageous goal chipping the Scotland goalkeeper David Marshall from a couple of meters inside the Scotland half.

Scotland has endured a 23-year wait for an international tournament before qualifying for Euro 2020. They will now have to wait for a few more days to have the opportunity to pick up their first points.

Scotland Player Ratings

David Marshall 6; Jack Hendry 6, Grant Hanley 7, Liam Cooper 6, Stephen O’Donnell 4; Stuart Armstrong 6, Scott McTominay 7, John McGinn 7, Andy Robertson 8; Ryan Christie 5, Lyndon Dykes 5

Manager’s Reaction:

“We came here to be competitive, I think we were competitive in the game. Sometimes a match doesn’t go your way, today was that day,” Steve Clarke said after the Scotland loss to the Czech Republic. “I don’t think there was much between the two sides if I’m honest. If you look at our possession, our attempts at goal, we weren’t quite clinical enough at the right time.”

“The breaks went against us at the wrong time. Losing a goal five minutes before half-time from a set play was disappointing, we normally defend that quite well,” he added. “We came out for the second half and started quite well. Jack hit the bar and had another shot which got blocked, fell to their striker, and he produced a marvelous finish. From there it becomes a difficult afternoon.”
