As one of the finest artistic talents in Spanish football, Santi Cazorla has long been heralded, and he surprised many when he chose to leave Villarreal to join Xavi with Al-Sadd in Qatar.
Cazorla spoke glowingly of Xavi’s skills as a coach in an exclusive interview with Diario AS and revealed that he thinks his friend is ready for Barcelona to take over.
“He started to like the course when he retired, and then he decided to do it,” Cazorla said of Xavi.
“For me, he was an example in that sense, the fact that he was waiting to decide. I want to have the same ideals once I retire. He’s eligible to be a teacher. You might say that tomorrow he would be able to coach Barcelona.
He’s prepared, I guess. He has a strong understanding of the players and he knows how to handle them. Up until recently, he has been playing and knows how to squeeze the most out of them, but if you don’t win, it doesn’t matter how you play.”
