Roberto Martinez, a UEFA technical analyst, and Belgian head coach has spoken out about Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, who was voted the best player in the Champions League 1/8 final return leg against Borussia Mönchengladbach (2-0).

“A true captain’s game, a masterclass in field picking, seeking open spaces and sharing places with other attacking players. Furthermore, he opened the scoring with his ‘bad’ foot from behind the penalty box,” Martinez told UEFA’s official website.

“The way he plays the false ‘nine’ should be learned in all of the world’s football academies.”
