Rio Ferdinand revealed the text that he received from Cristiano Ronaldo when Gary Lineker said he preferred Lionel Messi. Ronaldo and Ferdinand played for six years together at Manchester United under the charge of Sir Alex Ferguson. They won three Premier League titles as well as a Champions League together. Ronaldo has gone on to become one of the best players in the world alongside Lionel Messi. his brace against France helped him equal Ali Daei’s record of the most international goals scored in the history of the sport.
”He’s a phenomenal player but someone who thinks about everything in the game to get every little bit out of himself.” Rio Ferdinand said about Cristiano Ronaldo. “It’s a great example and he uses negativity as fuel. You (Lineker) say Messi is the better out of the two. He will text me saying “why has he said that?” It’s his competitive nature and you need that to be the best.”
Ferdinand further explained how competitive he was even during training. He played with Ronaldo at the beginning of his career and said the Portugal star was obsessed to be the best in the world.
“He was an obsessed human in terms of becoming the best. It’s down to commitment, a little bit of luck genetically as well,” he added. “His touches have gone down since he was a young kid in 2004, but obviously the touches in the box where he’s going to affect games has gone up.”
