Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez is said to have turned down a free move to Atletico Madrid this summer.
Lucas Vazquez Deal:
Real Madrid’s deal with Vazquez expires this year, but the Whites are preparing a new bid to keep him at the Bernabeu. The 29-year-old reportedly receives €3.5 million a year and is due to receive an increased bid of €5 million to ensure he remains in the Spanish capital for three more years.
Atletico Madrid is interested in signing the versatile midfielder, but according to AS, Vazquez declined because he does not want to leave Real Madrid for their cross-town rivals.
Vazquez is a huge Real Madrid supporter and has respectfully ruled out joining the Rojiblancos this season.
AC Milan is still said to be interested in signing Vazquez and may outbid Real Madrid on a deal. However, according to the AS, Vazquez’s choice is to stay in Madrid, so Milan may have to make him an irresistible bid.
Vazquez – The Valuable Player:
Before his injury in the Clasico against Barcelona last month, Vazquez was a valuable player for Real Madrid, putting in some solid performances in a temporary right-back position.
The 29-year-old is a close favorite of manager Zinedine Zidane. He admires Vazquez’s professional ethic and willingness to bring up consistent performances anytime he is called upon.
Vazquez’s versatility could be useful again next season. And given that he is already at the top of his career. Real Madrid may not want to lose him this summer.
Losing him to Atletico Madrid would have been a disappointment. Diego Simeone would have liked to have a star of his caliber. The Argentine prefers hard jobs with a high labor rate, and no one exemplifies these qualities better than Vazquez.
Vazquez had made 24 starts in La Liga before his injury. He is unlikely to play again this season. But Real Madrid hopes he extends his deal and returns better next season.
