Ever since his appointment in 2016, Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has established himself as one of the most effective managers. The Frenchman led Los Blancos to LaLiga glory, his second league title in his coaching stint, following a brief break away from football and his subsequent return in 2019, with the previous trophy coming in the 2016-17 season.
While Zidane currently appears to be untouchable at the Bernabeu, when he leaves shortly, Real Madrid is already planning its alternative.
A story by Goal reported that Florentino Perez, president of Real Madrid, was a big admirer of Mauricio Pochettino, the former Tottenham Hotspur boss, and wanted him to take responsibility once Zidane left. The club has turned their attention to another Real Madrid legend, Raul Gonzalez, with Pochettino now at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
Raul, the club’s second-highest goalscorer after Cristiano Ronaldo, is currently at the helm of the Spanish capital’s Real Madrid Castilla. Under his watchful eyes, the team achieved impressive results and Perez claims the Spanish legend will be a perfect choice once Zidane departs.
For the reigning LaLiga champions, Zidane’s stature as a football hero has paid rich returns, with the manager known for his man-management. Similarly, in the locker room, Raul is a club legend and enjoys widespread respect. So, Perez is looking to recreate Zidane’s magic in the future with Raul on the sidelines.
