According to a report by MARCA, Real Madrid suspects that Raphael Varane does not intend to renew his contract with the club and thus would be willing to entertain offers for the defender this coming summer.
Since joining the club in 2011, the French defender has been an integral part of the club and this summer will mark a decade since his arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu. Florentino Perez has publicly heralded Varane as the future captain of the club, but a departure might soon be on the cards without movement on contract renewal. This summer, as the Frenchman’s contract expires in 2022, Real Madrid’s hand may be forced.
The defender is said to be interested in both PSG and Manchester United, and Madrid would require €50 million for his signature.
Varane is one of the few members of the current first-team squad in a pandemic ravaged market that still maintains a strong value. The transfer proceeds, if sold, could help Madrid offset some of its losses. With the future of both Varane and Sergio Ramos in doubt, it’s little wonder why Madrid is looking to secure the Bosman signing of Bayern Munich’s David Alaba.
The MARCA report could be the club’s pressure to feel the player’s intentions for renewal, or Varane could be seeking a new challenge.
