Jamie Carragher has said that Jose Mourinho Premier League ship has sailed after he was sacked by Tottenham. The three-time league winner took over from Mauricio Pochettino in November 2019. His biggest achievement at the club was leading them to a sixth-place finish. However, the club is five points behind the Champions League places this season and has struggled.
The North London club have suffered this season losing to Dinamo Zagreb in the Round of 16 in March. They were also eliminated from the FA Cup in the fifth round by Everton. Mourinho has lost 10 matches in a single season for the first time in his career. And now Jose Mourinho will find it hard to find an established club to manage in the Premier League.
“I don’t see Mourinho back in the Premier League, I think that ship’s sailed now,” Carragher said. “I struggle to think of any club – he’s been at Spurs, so he’s not going to Arsenal, he’s been at United so he’s not going to City, Liverpool wouldn’t have him.”
“Would he go to a middle of the table club? I just don’t see him there, I really don’t. It’s either international football or maybe Italy.” he added. “The Italian champions this year will be Inter Milan, with Antonio Conte, who plays his type of football – so maybe you can get away with it a little bit more in Italy because it was certainly a turn-off for Spurs supporters.”
Tottenham holds the unwanted record of most points dropped from winning positions this season. This was his fourth stint at a Premier League Club. He managed Chelsea on two different occasions. He also had a stint at Manchester United between the two spells at Chelsea. There are a number of reports that the Portuguese were sacked due to unrest in the dressing room ahead of the League Cup final.
