According to a source, Mauricio Pochettino is hoping to make a deal for Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi as he prepares to take over at Paris Saint-Germain. Following the dismissal of Thomas Tuchel, Pochettino, who has been out of management for more than a year, is considered to be the chief of the job in the French capital.

With Messi running down the final few months of his Barcelona contract, PSG was closely linked to the Argentinean’s dramatic swoop, but Messi’s father refuted rumors suggesting that talks with the Ligue 1 champions had already been conducted.

Nevertheless, Le Parisien claims that Pochettino hopes to persuade his countryman to move to PSG, but Manchester City will first have to fend off interest from the French giants.

The article says that Pochettino is hoping to complete a deal using Messi’s ties at PSG, with former Argentine teammate Neymar willing to reunite with the six-time Ballon d’Or winner, and Angel Di Maria, Mauro Icardi and Leandro Paredes, Messi’s foreign teammates, all seeking their trade in Paris.

Despite his transfer request in the summer, Messi, now 33, has remained a key figure for Barcelona this season, with the attacker boasting 10 goals and five assists in all competitions.

Recently, by scoring his 644th goal for La Blaugrana in their 3-0 victory over Real Valladolid, the South American surpassed Pele’s club record.
