Bosnia-Herzegovina midfielder Miralem Pjanic turned down the opportunity to join France’s national team after a call from Raymond Domenech.
Miralem Pjanic said that he was allowed to represent France, but it would have broken his heart to turn his back on Bosnia-Herzegovina.
And it was during Ligue 1 that Raymond Domenech, the then head coach of France, telephoned him about the possibility of making himself available for Les Bleus.
“Yeah, when I arrived in Lyon, I might have played for the French team, but I said a few days before that my dream was Bosnia,” Pjanic, 30, told Canal Plus.
“Domenech called me, but I had made up my mind already. Naturally, I thanked him, but I preferred to be rational. It was too much [to break into] for me, the France team, at that time. And it would have hurt my heart if Bosnia, on the other hand, watched one of my playing for the France team.”
