Manchester City will not consider anything less than victory at this stage.

Wolves came as close as anyone in the last four months to put an end to their hosts’ historic winning streak at the Etihad on Tuesday night, but still lost by three goals.

The city currently has 21 straight victories, a club-record-tying 28 consecutive unbeaten matches, and, most notably, a 15-point advantage over Manchester United at the top of the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola, on the other side, was stalking his technical box in frustration with 10 minutes left, his team having been pegged back by Conor Coady’s shock equalizer after squandering a series of chances.

But City persisted in pressing forward, and the ball eventually fell to Gabriel Jesus just outside the six-yard box, allowing the Brazilian to put City back in front.

Riyad Mahrez and Jesus scored two more goals to make the score 4-1, effectively punishing Wolves for putting them under too much pressure.

The squad was united in recognition of each other’s hard work as they all hugged at the full-time whistle, showing the winning spirit that Guardiola has instilled in them.

Both Wolves and United, City’s opponents on Sunday, had won at the Etihad last season, so these two games were arguably the final stumbling blocks in City’s title challenge.

Nuno Espirito Santo, without a doubt, knows how to stop City – the Wolves manager had only lost once in his previous three visits and had done the double over them last season.

Wolves have been the most successful Premier League club against Guardiola’s side in the last three years.
