Pep Guardiola has warned Manchester City that the club could face an emergency with injuries, illnesses, and suspensions eating into the squad. The defending champions have been without Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish, and Phil Foden over the last couple of weeks. The former contracted the coronavirus and left isolation in the last few days while Grealish and Foden are not matched fit yet. Aymeric Laporte is also out due to suspension.
“We are in an emergency for the intensity of the squad. We have few people.” Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said. “I never complain, I never miss the players who cannot play for any reason and I trust them a lot the players. When one is out, another one comes in. But to sustain it in December – the toughest month of the year – the fact is we are in trouble because we have few players. We have just 15 or 14 players and we are in a difficult position because a lot of players play a lot of minutes.”
“Kevin is back but he needs time to be fit,” he added. “People who have had Covid explain that it’s draining, tiring, and takes time. He is a player who needs to be fit for his top form, or he cannot show it. I would say he settled perfectly. I think it is easy because he knows many English players here and the other guys are sometimes too much (sic) nice people,”
