Paulinho has revealed that he would welcome a move back to Barcelona in La Liga. The former Tottenham midfielder has reached the end of his contract with Guangzhou Evergrande in the CSL. Paulinho last played for Barcelona in 2017/18 where he made 49 appearances and scored nine goals in the process. He played under Ernesto Valverde that season and won the league as well as the Copa del Rey. He had joined on loan from Guangzhou Evergrande four years ago before returning the following year. His contract was terminated by mutual consent and is now a free agent.
“Barca is a team I know well,” Paulinho said about a possible return to Barcelona. “I spent an unforgettable year there, both at the club and in the city, and we won the League and the Copa del Rey. If I had another chance, and it was a good thing for both me and my family, I would be delighted [to return].”
“For me, the issue of money or the duration of the contract wouldn’t be a problem, it never has been, and less so if Barca is the team that calls you,” he added. “I already demonstrated this when I left Guangzhou [by going] there [and] charging much less than I received in China. I’ve never put money ahead of my career, so that wouldn’t be a problem to go back there. Also, this time the club wouldn’t have to pay a transfer [fee] for me.”
Paulinho has 56 caps for brazil and could be a shrewd signing for any top club in Europe. Koeman has already signed four players, three players joining on a free transfer. Emerson royal has re-joined the club from Real Betis after Barcelona exercised the buy-back option on the right-back.
