Paul Scholes says he was expecting Liverpool to walk through the league earlier in the season. Bobby Firmino has been singled out for not making the most of his opportunities. Scholes added that it might have made a big difference by taking any of those risks.

“Remarkably, they’ve been up there since December,” Scholes told BT Sport.

“I played a game against the Wolves and they reached them and beat them 4-0. I’m watching it and I’m thinking it’s going to be another walkover they’re going to take 10 or 15 points in the league.

They do not generate chances, but often they regulate games. The main disappointment for me, however, was Firmino. He’s a fine footballer, but some of the odds [against Everton] are that he’s going to smash everything.

He’s the one that gets half the odds and it makes a huge difference if you take one of them. But with his finishing, he was so unpredictable.”

Recently, Firmino was the key focus of discussion with pundits singling out the Brazilian for his poor results.

Sadio Mane spoke earlier today about the significance of Firmino, saying that the forward is the most important one out of the front 3.
