West Ham legend Paolo di Canio sang the praises of Michail Antonio after the former broke his goalscoring record with the club. Di Canio held the long-lasting record of 47 goals in 118 appearances for the club. He represented the club from 1999 to 2003. He revealed that he had looked to sign Antonio in 2011 when he was the boss of Swindon Town.
“I’m really happy for him because he’s a fantastic lad, a great professional, and a really, really important player,” Paolo Di Canio said after Michail Antonio broker his scoring record. “Michail Antonio, congratulations. You deserved it, I’m happy and I’m hoping you can score many, many more because you are really good. You have an extraordinary, atypical physique. We always say that when a striker is built like that, he can be the team’s whole forward line. I’m not saying he’s the best player in the world, but no one else does it like him.”
