Ole Gunnar Solskjr criticized Manchester United and Chelsea players for placing pressure on refree Stuart Attwell

Football News

In Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Chelsea, Ole Gunnar Solskjr criticized Manchester United and Chelsea players for placing pressure on Stuart Attwell while the referee reviewed the touchline monitor to see whether Callum Hudson-Odoi had committed a handball.

After initially ruling against awarding a penalty, the VAR instructed the official to consult the computer. To United’s chagrin, he retained that position even though Hudson-hand Odoi’s seemed to have prevented Mason Greenwood from gaining ownership. Following that, Solskjr reported that his team was not being given decisions due to “outside pressures,” including an article on Chelsea’s website.

As he weighed in on the incident on Tuesday, United’s manager was questioned for his thoughts on players congregating near Attwell. César Azpilicueta and Hudson-Odoi of Chelsea, as well as Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford of Manchester United, seemed to express their displeasure behind the referee.

“The refs have enough pressure as it is, so we should just leave them to it and let them make as many positive decisions as they can,” Solskjr said.

Following the VAR check, his captain, Harry Maguire, chastised Attwell.

After crucial decisions in the 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United went against his team when the VAR did not ask the referee to check the pitchside monitor, Solskjr changed his stance. “Perhaps we should have made more of a mess about it,” he said. We’re a good bunch of lads, so maybe we should have pressured them to look at it before the game resumed.”

When asked about the penalty incident at Chelsea, he shrugged it off. He said, “That’s water under the bridge.”

After a muscle complaint, Edinson Cavani may be fit to play against Crystal Palace on Wednesday.
