‘No one wants to play us’: Tuchel

Football News

Nobody wants to be drawn against Chelsea in the Champions League quarter-finals after defeating Atlético Madrid 3-0 on aggregate in the previous round, according to Thomas Tuchel.

Chelsea advanced to the last eight for the first time since 2014 after a convincing victory over Atlético, claiming the second leg at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night thanks to goals from Hakim Ziyech and Emerson Palmieri. Tuchel, who has made a big impact since replacing Frank Lampard in January, was pleased with his team’s success against La Liga’s champions, and the boss hopes that rivals will try to avoid his side in Friday’s quarter-final draw.

“The most important thing is that we believe we are deserving of this,” Tuchel said. “The most critical thing is that we provide input to the guys on how they performed in terms of consistency and strength. It is important that you believe it and that no one needs to persuade you. They experiment with a particular bond, and the effects give you a distinct benefit and glue to perform incredible feats. This can only be accomplished by results and interactions. Nobody wants to play against us, I’m sure. We are now in the final eight, so the challenge ahead is incredibly daunting. It’s a huge jump, but don’t be afraid.”

As César Azpilicueta appeared to foul Yannick Carrasco, Chelsea was lucky not to concede an early penalty, and Atlético suffered another setback when Stefan Savic was sent off for elbowing Antonio Rüdiger. Tuchel said, “I did not see it as a punishment.” “Azpi became terrified. On the sidelines, I was a little scared.”

Those actions did not distract from Chelsea’s commanding results. Emerson had a memorable moment as Ziyech scored his first goal under Tuchel. The left-back has only played one game since Lampard’s exit, but he was mobbed by his teammates after scoring in extra time off the bench.

“I’m overjoyed for him,” Tuchel said. “He is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. It was entirely important to give him a few minutes to show appreciation for his demeanor. All are rejoicing for him.”
