Another crippling injury blow has been dealt with Brazilian superstar Neymar who is said to have only a slim chance’ of meeting his former club Barcelona next week in the Champions League.
During PSG’s French Cup win over Caen on Wednesday night, Neymar was sent hurtling to the ground after a crunching tackle just after the second half had started.
After writhing around in pain clutching his leg, the 29-year-old was promptly retired from the pitch but was able to hobble from the field while angrily complaining to the fourth official.
Reports in France now say that Neymar left the stadium early before the match ended and was taken away rather than to the official team coach in the back of a van.
According to David Aiello, a L’Equipe journalist, the Brazilian left the field and could be seen limping.
It is confirmed that Neymar had left long before his team-mates, and now faces a frantic struggle to be fit in time for Tuesday, February 16, the emotional Barca showdown.
Tonight or tomorrow morning, the tests will be carried out, but the PSG entourage is pessimistic about going against Barça. A slight hope, however, remains at this hour,’ it was added.
‘I don’t regret choosing to play Neymar,’ manager Mauricio Pochettino told Eurosport afterward.
‘It was fit for him to play. Such things happen.’
Neymar gave an indication late on Wednesday night that he now places all of his faith in a miracle recovery in the space of six days after taking a cryptic message to the social media site Twitter.
‘At all times, honor and praise to God,’ Neymar wrote, alongside the symbol of a loving heart and praying hands.
Team-mate Moise Kean, who scored the winner in the game, took a more positive tone and, in the aftermath, told reporters:’ All is well, he’s ready. Tomorrow, he’ll recover during school. He’s going to be ready for the match.’
