Newcastle: Javier Manquillo

Javier Manquillo revealed that the Newcastle squad will back under-fire boss Steve Bruce without hesitation. Bruce was expected to be sacked following the takeover by the Saudi-based consortium a week before Newcastle’s 3-2 defeat to Tottenham. The game was the 1000th game of the long managerial career of Bruce. Co-owner Amanda Staveley said that the owners wanted to be patient and considerate and not make too many changes overnight. The club is second from bottom in the Premier League table and has not managed a single win in their first eight games. Despite the occasion, Bruce was greeted by a large portion of the crowd at St. James Park.

“We are all professionals, Steve the first,” Newcastle United defender Javier Manquillo said. “He knows that the situation is not easy and even more so now that there is talk of his dismissal, but we are not getting carried away by the rumors. He’s working normally, he wants to start to get back on track and we’ll see what happens in the end. I have read that there is talk of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard, but our manager now is Steve Bruce and we support him without hesitation.”

“If you ask me who I’d sign for Newcastle, I’d go for [Kylian] Mbappe and I’d go for [Erling] Haaland,” he added. “If it was a PlayStation team I’d also go for [Lionel] Messi and Cristiano [Ronaldo], but the youngsters who stand out the most right now are those two.”
