Napoli won an appeal against Juventus’ default 3-0 defeat, and it will reschedule the Serie A match and cancel the penalty point.
Napoli had seen the dismissal of previous appeals and brought the matter to the Italian Olympic Committee, which on Tuesday ruled in favor of the club.
The decision meant that Napoli advanced from the fifth position to third, while after losing the three points it had been awarded, Juventus fell to fourth. After dropping to its first defeat of the season later on Tuesday, Juventus stayed below Napoli on goal difference, a 3-0 loss to Fiorentina.
If teams are level at the end of the season, the first determining factor is the head-to-head record, then the goal difference. There’s always a game in hand for Napoli.
A 3-0 defeat and a one-point penalty were given to Napoli for not turning up at Juventus on Oct. 4 due to coronavirus cases.
