Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho talked about Manchester City’s and Liverpool’s financial capabilities.
“Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp are undoubtedly two of the world’s greatest coaches and Premier League stars. They got into clubs that tried to win it all. You have to have top players in every position to accomplish that,” Mourinho told the press conference.
“It’s a puzzle squad. If Pep decides to splurge on defenders at any level, they do it. With van Dijk, Jurgen thought the same way, but that player wasn’t enough because they were both feeling unstable. So Alisson signed them. That’s how it operates, you know, for top clubs that have amazing financial choices. They’re just doing it. They’ve been lucky.
The management was very transparent and honest with me when I came to Tottenham. I’m not going to try to equate my case with other clubs, because they were open to Tottenham.
I realized that I was getting into another reality. A top club, because I’m not going to go to it for a second, but it’s a club with different requirements. We don’t pretend to win top tournaments, we can’t solve money problems.
In the summer, the club made every possible attempt to strengthen our squad and I’m not complaining. I’m just getting my best job done. This is the end of it.”
