Pep Guardiola joked about the amazing 19-game winning streak for Man City by firing shots at the detractors of his squad. In the first leg of their UCL Round of 16 games at Puskas Arena on Wednesday, the Premier League leaders defeated Borussia Monchengladbach 2-0. Guardiola reported sarcastically after the game that money was the main factor behind the success of Manchester City as the club continued its unbeaten run.
Man City has now won their last 19 games in all competitions after Wednesday’s victory over Borussia Monchengladbach. In his post-game interview, however, Guardiola sarcastically said, “We have a lot of money to buy a lot of incredible players,” when asked about how his team can continue the remarkable winning streak. Then the Catalan heaped praise on his players and said, “This is real. We can not do it without good quality players. This group’s humanity, the players are amazing and they have an excellent friendship. They play every game, thinking they’re just winning the game.”

In the Premier League, Man City has been described as major spenders and netizens typically put the recent success of the club down to heavy cash injections by the club owner, Sheikh Mansour. Goal reports say that Manchester City has spent nearly £ 2 billion on signings over the last 20 years. Since Guardiola took over in 2016, the Cityzens have reportedly invested over £ 500 million, bringing players such as Ilkay Gundogan, Gabriel Jesus, Leroy Sane, Bernardo Silva, and Riyad Mahrez in. However, as Guardiola brought in the likes of Kyle Walker, Aymeric Laporte, John Stones, Ruben Dias, Joao Cancelo, Nathan Ake, and Benjamin Mendy in recent years, Man City’s biggest overhaul has come in safety.
