Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta talked about midfielder Nicolas Pepe, who was ineffective after moving from Lille in 2019 to the squad.
“We need to help [succeed] him. He needs game time, consistency in the squad, for that to happen. He has to explain what he can do when he has that. In the coming months, we will see how the situation develops,” Arteta told Sky Sports.
“I think it’s hard to judge players who haven’t played that much in the last two or three weeks, and you can’t expect them to be the best players on the pitch.”
“Nico tried the whole match [against Newcastle] very hard. He had some very good opportunities where he was able to score two or three times.
Under normal conditions, he would bring the ball in the net given his expertise in those cases. He couldn’t do it, but I believe that his contribution to the team’s game was significant.”
In 11 EPL games this season, Pepe has scored two goals.
