Uche Ikpeazu and Matt Crooks scored their first goals for Middlesbrough in a 2-1 win over Bristol City in the Championship. Middlesbrough dominated the game after taking the lead through Ikpeazu after seven minutes. After 60 minutes, the ex-Leicester do of Matty James and Andy King levelled for the visitors. Crooks then scored the winner with ten minutes left in the game to seal the win.
Bristol City started the better of the two sides in what looked like a tough game for the hosts. From then on they failed to create much with the goal being their first shot on target. The attacking four for Middlesborough looked lively throughout the game. Ikpeazu, Crooks, Isaiah Jones, and Djed Spence made themselves a nuisance in the Bristol City half throughout the game. The two goals were just rewarded for their enterprise.
Middlesbrough’s Neil Warnock: “I was gobsmacked before kick-off when I came out, it was an amazing sight, that is why I am in the game.” he added after Middlesbrough beat Bristol City. ”I have been here I don’t know how many months, and that’s what I have been waiting for. I thought at 1-1 they were brilliant. We had a 10-minute sticky spell. All credit to them for helping us through. It was great to score two in your first home match in front of the fans. I went to clap them after the game, they were all over the shop. It was fabulous.”
Bristol City’s Nigel Pearson: “We were careless today. We had enough possession, opportunities in the game to get something out of it.” he added. ”We looked pretty comfortable for most of the game. Boro is a team that wants to put pressure on you through set-plays and we gave needless set-plays away. After fighting to get back into it, we conceded a very sloppy second.”
