Messi faces ban after red card

Football News

Barcelona player Lionel Messi was handed the first red card of his 17-year club career for lashing out at Athletic Bilbao’s Asier Villalibre.

Lionel Messi’s career in Barcelona had almost all – but the Argentine superstar hadn’t been red-carded until Sunday evening for the Camp Nou giants.

That changed when, after unexpectedly losing his composure late in the final 3-2 Supercopa de Espana loss, Messi was sent to Athletic Bilbao for the first time in his club career.

The 33-year-old is now facing a possible extended ban to be moved to LaLiga, with the final say on the length of the ESPN suspension allegations being made by the Spanish FA Disciplinary Committee (RFEF).
