Once again, with David Beckham’s Inter Miami tipped to be the beneficiaries, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez may reunite.
Together, the pair enjoyed tremendous success in Barcelona, winning four LaLiga titles, four Copa del Reys, a trophy in the Champions League, and two Supercopa de Espana.
However, when Suarez, 33, left to join Atletico Madrid last summer, they were split after six years as club teammates, to Messi’s dismay.
At the end of the season, Messi’s Camp Nou contract expired, and recently spoke of his intention to play in the future in MLS.
“I have always had the dream of being able to enjoy and have the experience of living in the United States, to experience what the league is like,” he told Spanish TV channel LaSexta.
Catalunya Radio, a Spanish radio station, announces that Messi and Suarez will reunite at Inter Miami with the co-owner of former England, Manchester United and Real Madrid star Beckham.
This will not happen, however, until the summer of 2022, when Suarez’s Wanda Metropolitano contract runs out.
This gives other clubs hope of signing Messi, who, should he finish his Barcelona deal, will have no lack of options. Nevertheless, Argentina acknowledged that no decision would be taken until June.
Messi added: “No [I’m not going to talk to other clubs because] before the end of the year I have nothing obvious. I will wait until the season is over. The main thing is to think about the squad, not to get distracted by other problems, and try to win titles.”
