Amid rumors linking the forward with Real Madrid and Liverpool, Mauricio Pochettino says he expects Kylian Mbappe to remain at Paris Saint-Germain “for many years to come.”
Mbappe has long been associated with a move away from PSG, but there are question marks as to whether he will be signed by any club.
Recently, the 22-year-old said he was considering his options with a PSG long-term contract bid on the table. His latest contract is expected to expire in 2022.
We say to one another, “Who does not love Kylian?” With his smile, his face, and his energy, he makes himself loved,’ Pochettino said in a Marca interview.
He was a world champion at the age of 19, and great things happened to him, but he is unique and different, with a lot of emotional intelligence. He has a lot of potentials to develop, but he’s already [someone for] the present, not just the future.
Working with this kind of talent is a challenge and a positive thing; it makes you a better coach. You give a solution to this form of player and he gives five back to you.
There are several rumors, but I think he’s going to be at PSG for many years to come, and that’s the hope of the club. As long as we are here, we’re relying on him. He indeed has to make a decision [on his future], but this project seems to him to be happy and dedicated.
Also, Pochettino was asked about rumors linking PSG to Lionel Messi’s transfer.
The new head coach was cautious not to fuel such speculation, but Pochettino noted that no football clubs are flawless when it comes to pursuing players from other clubs, with PSG accused of disrespect by Barca presidential candidate Joan Laporta.
