Spanish third-division club Navalcarnero shocked Eibar 3-1 to reach Sunday’s Copa del Rey round of 16.
Juan Esnider, son of former Argentina forward Juan Eduardo Esnider, scored twice for the tiny Madrid team that will be appearing for the first time in the last 16 of the Cup.
Before the 28-year-old Esnider scored in the 61st and 79th minutes, Japanese forward Yoshinori Muto put Eibar ahead in the 16th minute and Manuel Jaimez equalized for the hosts from the penalty spot in the 30th.
In the 1990s, Juan Eduardo Esnider played in Spain, including Real Madrid and Madrid Atltico. He played for the Argentine national team as well.
In the previous round, when it took extra time to get past Las Rozas, another third-division club from Madrid, Eibar had barely avoided elimination.
On Sunday, all other first-division clubs prevented upsets against lower-division clubs. Valencia beat Alcorcn 2-0, Villarreal beat Tenerife 1-0, Real Betis beat Sporting Gijn 2-0, Mlaga 2-1 was eliminated by Granada and Espanyol 2-0 was overtaken by Osasuna.
