In the second round of the DFB Cup, a Moussa Diaby brace, as well as goals from Lucas Alario and Edmond Tapsoba, saw Bayer Leverkusen come from behind against Eintracht Frankfurt.

It was Leverkusen who took an early lead in Frankfurt when these sides met 10 days ago in the Bundesliga, but roles were reversed this time as Amin Younes, the scorer of Eintracht’s equalizer that day, but the visitors ahead with just six minutes played after Andre Silva flicked into the box on Daichi Kamada’s ball.

It took Bayer a few minutes to get moving, but when Erik Durm managed Leon Bailey’s cross in the net, they were handed a route back into the game. Alario stepped up and converted to send the beaten finalists from last season to the break stage.

The home side again came from behind to lead through Tapsoba, this time in the right net for his first Leverkusen goal, heading a Kerem Demirbay free-kick back over Kevin Trapp, parallel to the recent meeting.

As Bayer won the ball back and Nadiem Amiri broke, laying the ball to Diaby, there was eventually daylight between the teams, and the Frenchmen finished with aplomb from a narrow-angle.

However, after Jonathan Tah was sent off for a challenge as Silva’s last player, Leverkusen had to see out the final portion of the game with 10 players. They did more than that when, in the dying minutes, Diaby made it four with a clinical solo split. On 2/3 February, Leverkusen will now face Rot-Weiss Essen in the round of 16.
