Luis Alberto’s two goals helped Lazio secure a 3-0 win over third-placed AS Roma in the city derby on Friday, with Simone Inzaghi’s side up to seventh in a row following a third Serie A win.

With Ciro Immobile capitalizing on a woeful mistake by Roger Ibanez to score his 12th league goal of the season, Lazio made a lightning start and went ahead after 14 minutes.

Roma still gave nothing in attack after the break, and in the 67th minute, Luis Alberto’s second put the game to bed and ensured a victory that brought Lazio two points from the top four in 31 out of 18 games before the rest of the weekend matches.

After their first loss in their last five league matches, Roma remains in the third position on 34 points, three behind second-placed Inter Milan, and six behind leaders AC Milan.

“For us this year it was very important to win as we haven’t been doing our best in the league,” Luis Alberto told Sky Sport Italia. “But we’ve been a different team in recent weeks.

“We have taken a step forward by winning against the big teams, but we must not lose concentration against the others.”

Despite advancing with an undefeated record from the Champions League group stage, the league form of Lazio was not as impressive. Back-to-back wins before the derby clash, however, improved their confidence.

They overwhelmed their city rivals on Friday, with Roma’s backline all over the place as Ibanez gifted Immobile an opening for the first Lazio goal.
