Marc-Andre Ter Stegen has spoken of his pride for making his 250th appearance for Barcelona in the midweek win over Athletic Club Bilbao. In the all-time list of goalkeepers with the most appearances for the Blaugrana, the outing means he stays in the fifth position.
The four previous shot-stoppers ahead of Ter Stegen on the list are Victor Valdes (535 matches), Andoni Zubiarreta (410), Antoni Ramallets (387), and Salvador Sadurni (332).
The German has grown into one of Camp Nou’s most important players, gaining a reputation as one of the world’s elite goalkeepers and an ever-present news reporter in Barcelona.
Ter Stegen is quoted by Diario Sport as saying: “I am so pleased with this accomplishment and it is an honor to achieve this spectacular number.
I hope there will be several more games to come and I will continue to add to this count of matches-I’m proud to be on this list. The reason that I have renewed my contract here is that I want to stay and help the club succeed.”
The 28-year-old has proven that he is one of the elite goalkeepers of football with a string of world-class results for Blaugrana, whom he joined for EUR 12 million from Borussia Moenchengladbach in 2014.
Ter Stegen held 105 clean sheets in his 250 games, conceding 237 goals as he scored 176 wins along with 44 draws and 30 defeats.
