Manchester United to open negotiations with Edinson Cavani on a new future deal

Football News

OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER announced that Manchester United would open negotiations with Edinson Cavani on a new ‘near-future’ deal.

After his deal at Paris Saint-Germain expired, the Uruguayan striker, 34, joined United on a free transfer.

A one-year contract was signed by Cavani with the option for a further 12 months.

But Solskjaer has indicated that he wants to bind Cavani down to a new contract after rapidly becoming the first choice center-forward at Old Trafford.

The manager of Man Utd revealed: ‘I can only say that Edinson did well. I was impressed with him, he yelled at the party. Shortly, we will sit and talk to him to see his intentions and our plans. It’s a fun debate to have. We’re still talking to the players. And, with his contract situation at the moment, we’re very pleased with what he’s done.”

Cavani has already been linked with a move away, despite impressing at United since his move last summer – scoring seven times in 24 games.

The ex-PSG striker has been tipped to join Marcos Rojo at Boca Juniors in Argentina.

But Mason Greenwood will be one of those hoping to prolong Cavani’s stay in England.

The whizkid announced earlier this week that he was supporting his football education with Cavani in the team after first learning about the beautiful game from Ronaldo, the Brazilian legend.

Greenwood told BT Sport: “[Cavani] does not speak the same language.”

But you can tell exactly how he plays the way he practices, you know he’s setting an example.

You may either watch him or pay no attention to him. But I do pay attention, watch him, watch him finish the way the runs, and things are done.

The runs to make in the box, he tells me, he’s probably scored 300 goals in the box doing the same movement over and over again.

“It’s good to have him around the club and to watch and learn from him.”
