Manchester City and Manchester United are expected to fight it out for the signature of David Alaba, the star defender of Bayern Munich. The Bayern deal with Alaba expires in June 2021 and both Manchester clubs have accepted the foreign 75-cap Austria strategy.
During his tenure in the Bundesliga, Pep Guardiola coached the 28-year-old, but City could face more competition for the double winner of the Champions League.
Manchester City and Manchester United have both formally contacted Pini Zahavi, the agent of Alaba, the Spanish media outlet AS sources.
Bayern Chief Executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has admitted that, despite doing “everything” to persuade the nine-time German league champion to stay, the European champions will do little to keep Alaba. But the Manchester rivals are not the only interested parties, according to the Daily Mail, with Real Madrid being the favorites to land Alaba.
Also in the race are Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
