Due to Philippe Coutinho’s continuing knee injury, Liverpool is expected to miss out on a £17 million transfer windfall from Barcelona. Coutinho joined in a contract worth up to £140 million. But the attacking midfielder has not played for the Barcelona club since being forced off against Eibar on December 29. One of the contract’s add-on clauses allows Barcelona to pay Liverpool £17 million if Coutinho makes 100 LaLiga appearances. Coutinho is just 10 games away from meeting the landmark, but according to Marca, the Brazilian has experienced a series of setbacks in his rehab and will miss the rest of the season.
The LaLiga giants decided to send Coutinho for surgery on April 5th. The decision was taken so that the midfielder was set to return in three months. However, according to the Spanish outlet, Coutinho has been left out of Barcelona’s remaining fixtures for the 2020-2021 season.
Coutinho Transfer Amid Knee Injury
Ronald Koeman, according to Sportsmail, is keen to offload the Brazilian during the summer transfer window.
Coutinho is linked with a move to the Premier League. Tottenham and Arsenal both have expressed interest in the 28-year-old. Though a move to Liverpool is also on the table, Jurgen Klopp looks to strengthen his failing squad.
