Liverpool 2-2 Man City: Should James Milner have been sent off?

Football News

Liverpool Man City

Pep Guardiola was left fuming after James Milner did not receive a second yellow card for a blatant foul when Man City visited Liverpool. Micah Richards too was critical of the referee and his decision to keep Milner on the pitch.  Milner tackled Bernardo Silva to avoid a counter-attack developing after receiving a yellow card early in the game. The right-back then played a role in the second Liverpool goal before being substituted.

“It’s a yellow card. It’s clear. It’s Anfield, it’s Old Trafford. In our situation, a City player is sent off. It’s too much clear. It was a second yellow.” Man City boss Pep Guardiola said after the Liverpool game.

“The referee has had an absolute shocker. I don’t understand how that is allowed to happen. How can he not give that decision? It’s absolutely baffling. He was influenced by the crowd. We have to tell the truth. It’s a yellow card and it changes the outcome of the game.” Former city defender Micah Richards said.

“He should have been sent off. You always know that the home team knows he should have been sent off as soon as they make the substitution. There is no doubt he was fortunate.” former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher said.
