Lingard makes debut double as West Ham win

With a thunderous effort after 56 minutes, Manchester United loanee Lingard – making his first Premier League appearance in 13 months – netted West Ham’s second.

And the 28-year-old doubled his total in the closing phases after Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez failed to hold on to his strike.

Midfielder Tomas Soucek put the visitors in front at Villa Park, finishing off Said Benrahma’s throw in the 51st minute.

Ollie Watkins gave Villa a glimmer of hope with nine minutes remaining, making it 2-1, before Lingard’s second rounded up the Hammers’ goals.
