Juve’s suspicions have come true with the news of an epidemic inside the Italian national team’s camp.
Leonardo Bonucci tested positive for Covid-19 after returning from international duty, according to the club’s official website.
The defender was one of four Bianconeri players summoned by National Team coach Roberto Mancini.
Though captain Giorgio Chiellini was granted an early departure following the Azzurri’s victory over Northern Ireland last Thursday, Bonucci stayed with the squad alongside Federico Chiesa and Federico Bernardeschi.
On Wednesday, the national team announced that four of its staff members had tested positive for the infection, creating significant questions regarding the health of the camp’s athletes (Football Italia).
Juventus will play Torino in the Derby Della Mole on Saturday before hosting Napoli in the rescheduled match on Wednesday.
The full statement on Bonucci, as released by Juventus on their official website, is as follows:
“After returning from the Italian national team, Leonardo Bonucci underwent a screening molecular examination for COVID-19, which came out positive this morning. The player has always been isolated at home.”
