Leicester City star becomes Premier League player of the month

Football News

Kelechi Iheanacho of Leicester City has been appointed Premier League player of the month for March.

In the run-up to the international break, the 24-year-old netted five goals in three league games for the Foxes, including his first Premier League hat-trick against Sheffield United.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was appointed manager of the month after stretching his unbeaten streak in the Premier League to ten games following his arrival at Stamford Bridge in January.

Erik Lamela of Tottenham Hotspur won the goal of the month award for his Rabona against Arsenal in the north London derby.

Iheanacho, whose partnership with Jamie Vardy took center stage in the absence of James Maddison and Harvey Barnes, also scored league goals in a 2-1 victory over Brighton and a 1-1 draw with Burnley.

“I’m overjoyed and honored to have won this award. It’s wonderful to be acknowledged, but I couldn’t have done it without the help of my teammates and the manager,” Iheanacho said.

“I’m having a wonderful time playing right now, and hopefully I can keep it going and help the team finish as strong as possible this season.”

The Nigeria international beat out Chelsea midfielder Andreas Christensen, Tottenham striker Harry Kane, West Ham’s Jesse Lingard, Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez, Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier, Manchester United defender Luke Shaw, and Brighton’s Leandro Trossard to win the trophy.
