Chelsea struggled for form in the absence of Hakim Ziyech and boss Frank Lampard is eager to bring the winger back to full fitness. Frank Lampard admits that it is no accident that Chelsea’s deceptive form coincided with Hakim Ziyech’s absence, with the winger potentially returning to Manchester City. Ziyech has missed Chelsea’s last six matches in all competitions due to a hamstring injury sustained in the 3-1 victory over Leeds United on December 5.
“I don’t think it’s a coincidence,” he said at his goal-based post-match news conference.
“I can’t fully rely on him. I think he was effective for us with Hakim, the way he played, in terms of assists, goal development, opportunity creation, and some goals. He still had such faith in the way he played, and at the time we were very fluid. When we were in a great run of form, he got hurt, so I think it was a point. You are going to miss players at that level when they drop out and we want him back.”
